New year, new food!

Still a weirdo by KT Tundstall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUv9AMB9cz8

I also think that once you're a weirdo you don't grow out of it...

I received the vegetarien bible for christmas. It's a very good informative book with good recipes. Very well made and has good info: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Vegetarian-Bible/Nicola-Graimes/e/9781407592848

I told Ricky we should do one veggie meal per week along with one fish meal and maybe I can get him to go down to one red meat meal per week.

Driving down to NB I saw the big trucks that bring the pigs to slaughter. It's very sad. I didn't want to eat pork ... and that lasted 1 day and I had bacon but it's really sad how they stack them up in the truck, very very sad.

Very sad.

Christmas break was pretty bad for eating all around but I tried to control the portions and sweets. I now have too many chocolates in the house. Maybe I'll freeze some or give some away. Mom made peanut butter balls. SO GOOD!

2 c. peanut butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 stick butter
3 c. Rice Krispies

Mix well. Make into small balls. Chill thoroughly. In top of double boiler melt:

1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1/8 cake paraffin - you don't really need the paraffin, the chocolate will stick without

I was also thinking in the new year we should try new recipes and more meal planning.

Christmas time = evil eating time

Diamond Rings - something else
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL8r_nrl3iU

This kid is Canadian!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Rings_(musician)

It very hard to google Diamond rings or if you put diamond rings band...you still get the jewelery!

Here are some calories in Christmas cookies:
Meringue (25 calories, 0g fat)
Fortune cookie (30 calories, 0g fat)
Biscotti (65 calories, 2.5g fat)
Oatmeal raisin (95 calories, 3.5g fat)
Sugar (100 calories, 3g fat)
Macaroon (100 calories, 6g fat)
Chocolate chip (110 calories, 6g fat)
Gingerbread man (115 calories, 5g fat)
Gingersnap (120 calories, 3g fat)
Peanut butter (125 calories, 6.5g fat)
White chocolate macadamia nut (140 calories, 8g fat)
Peanut blossom (150 calories, 8g fat)
M&M cookie (200 calories, 8g fat)

As if you're better of with fortune cookies....they're not even Christmas.

Got hit by the wine truck again on the weekend - That was like 1200 calories of wine!

I found this site that is pretty fun for your holiday meal. You pick what you're going to eat and then it tells you how many kilometers you need to walk in order to walk off your meal. I think I'll be walking for a long time!!!
http://walking.about.com/library/cal/blholidaycalories.htm

One glass of wine, Half a cup of mixed, raw veggies, Half a cup of fresh fruit, One ounce of potato or tortilla chips, One teaspoon of chip dip, 1 tablespoon spinach dip, 1 half of deviled egg, 2 oz. boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce, Three cups salad with diet dressing, Six ounces of white and dark turkey, Half a cup of stuffing, Half a cup of mashed potatoes, Half a cup of gravy, Half a cup of candied sweet potatoes, a candy cane, a chocolate, ...that comes to 1816 calories. You will need to walk 18.16 miles, 29.29 kilometers, or 36320 steps, assuming you cover one mile in 2,000 steps.

What to eat what to eat

Oh my god, Bonny M is so freaken cool. I was going to get another x-mas song but this one caught my eye.
It;s so bad it's good. Rasputin by Bonny M: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvDMlk3kSYg

With x-mas coming I will do my best not to eat crap or minimal crap. I don't know what I'll eat and i might not update as much during the holidays as I will be in NB but the New Year will have more challenges.

I went for lunch this week to Darcy's and instead of getting the fish and chips I got the Salmon Nicoise salad.

We had our x-mas lunch today. It was catered by Buffet Charbonneau and really good price for what you get. http://www.buffetcharbonneau.ca/

I made cheesecake cupcakes last night. Really easy and really good (not healthy):

CCW day 17

Christmas wrapping by the Waitresses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jy4X87fDk4

My new favorite x-mas song...of the day.

I'm stuck. I don't know what else to try. I cut a lot of junk. I should probably look at salt content more...It's still calory counting but I am getting sick of counting. I now know how many calories in things...

So I finally got my Go vegan booklet from Peta. I signed up for it when I went vegetarian for a week. A few surprise vegeratians are on the cover like Forest Whitaker...and Alec Baldwin! Dali Lama is a vegetarian, so is joaquin Pheonix.

Good info in the booklet but a lot was in skinny bitch. Maybe I should read skinny bitch again to get inspired. Maybe I should go vegan...after x-mas. I'll do vegan week.

I`m still not eating enough fish!!!! Ricky can't remember anything I tell him. He needs more fish to help his memory! Friday should be fish day. If I put it on the calendar he will cook it.

Regular consumption of fish can reduce the risk of various diseases and disorders. Selected research findings indicate the following:

Asthma - children who eat fish may be less likely to develop asthma.

Brain and eyes - fish rich in omega 3 fatty acids can contribute to the
health of brain tissue and the retina (the light sensitive tissue lining the inner surface of the eye).
Cancer - the omega 3 fatty acids in fish may reduce the risk of many types of cancers by 30 to 50 per cent, especially of the oral cavity, oesophagus, colon, breast, ovary and prostate.

Cardiovascular disease - eating fish every week reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke by reducing blood clots and inflammation, improving blood vessel elasticity, lowering blood pressure, lowering blood fats and boosting 'good'
cholesterol

Dementia - elderly people who eat fish or seafood at least once a week may have a lower risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.

Depression - people who regularly eat fish have a lower incidence of
depression (depression is linked to low levels of omega 3 fatty acids in the brain).

Diabetes - fish may help people with
diabetes manage their blood sugar levels.

Eyesight - breastfed babies of mothers who eat fish have better eyesight, perhaps due to the omega 3 fatty acids transmitted in breast milk.

Inflammatory conditions - regular fish consumption may relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis,
psoriasis and autoimmune disease.

Prematurity - eating fish during pregnancy may help reduce the risk of delivering a premature baby.

I went to Sam`s last night and weighted myself. I seem to have lost 8 pounds since August. Very well. I asked Sam the accuracy of the scale and she said it was pretty good...then she said she lost 4 pounds in one week.  I might try to get a second opinion on another scale...

CCW day 10 - Oh Banana!

Diamonds and guns by the transplants:

D= Greek salad (220)  and 2 pork slouvlaki (120 for the 2 - that seems low) and one blueberry cookie (30)

GO BANANA!

There are about 105 calories in a banana.

And if you need to lose weight, then getting those calories in your body EVERY day can have dramatic impact.

The following article will explain exactly why.

Did you know...

Every single one of those banana calories contain a small trace of a miracle weight loss mineral?

A tiny little substance that science has linked to fat loss, increased energy and many other "youthful" health benefits.

What is this mineral called?

It's called potassium.

And while we've all heard of it before, you'd do good to pay attention the following.

The calories in a banana are loaded with the stuff.  Consuming just one a day can have dramatic affects on your body.  Your appearance.  Everything.

The potassium in a banana is that powerful!

Here's just a few of the amazing benefits of the potassium in a banana...
  • Keeps heart, brain, kidney, muscle tissues and other vital organs of human body in good condition.
  • Regulates blood sodium levels keeping blood pressure low and reducing the risk of heart attack.
  • It's a common "natural" treatment for cholesterol that can surpass even medication.
  • It builds and strengthens muscle and muscle burns more fat.
  • It's an amazing energy booster. (This energy lasts!)
  • It prevents excess fluid retention so you don't look "bloated".
  • Research has shown it reduces the risk of stroke and other disease.
  • Eliminates muscle cramping.
And the list of health benefits goes on and on.

All that from just eating a banana a day!

Basically, those 105 banana calories pack a powerful punch when consumed.

It gets dissolved in your body releasing all that potassium and other "good stuff" that sends a surge of health through your whole system.

Those 105 calories in a banana help to "slam the door" on the real reason you have excess stomach fat so you can finally lose weight and keep it off.

So the bottom line here is...

If you want to lose weight.  Get more energy.  Improve your health.  Then eating just one banana a day is a great place to start.
